After Dusty May is rejected by Louisville, what next steps should the head coach search take?
After Kenny Payne was fired after two dismal seasons in charge, the Louisville Cardinals made a serious effort to hire two head coaches to succeed him.
The first was Scott Drew, the longtime Baylor coach, who announced after private negotiations that he plans to stay in Waco with the Bears for the long term.
The second was Dusty May, the upstart Florida Atlantic coach who led the Owls to the Final Four last season and an at-large bid this year. However, May took the open position in Ann Arbor at Michigan, sending Louisville back to the drawing board as it tries to climb out of the massive hole Payne put it in.
The Cardinals remain a prestigious program with great facilities, a large fan and donor base and a good basketball conference. With a desperate athletic department, they should be able to land a coach with some pedigree who can help turn the program around.
