Rumored; Mets Target to release few players out For New Home; Could New York Get Deal Done?
The New York Mets could use one more slugger in the middle of the lineup.
New York has made some positive strides since the disappointing 2023 campaign came to an end. The Mets brought in former Milwaukee Brewers executive David Stearns to be the team’s president of baseball operations and he has improved the club.
The Mets have focused on smaller deals to players with upside rather than splashy massive investments. New York is in a better place on paper right now but still could use one more slugger in the middle of the lineup to help the club compete for a National League Wild Card spot.
New York has been linked on multiple occasions to six-time All-Star J.D. Martinez and he still is available. Martinez spent the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was an All-Star but still hasn’t found a new home yet.
He is 36 years old but has plenty of pop left in his bat and has found success in large markets. Martinez clubbed 33 home runs last season with Los Angeles to go along with 103 RBIs in 113 games played.
Martinez spent the prior five seasons with the Boston Red Sox and was one of the best hitters in baseball and helped lead the club to the 2018 World Series.
Spring Training officially is here and Martinez still is available. At this point, he certainly won’t cost much at all but could be a major addition to the Mets’ lineup. Why not give him a chance?
