Clemson QB commit Cade Klubnik named Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year
Gatorade announced Dec. 7 that Cade Klubnik, a Clemson football commit and Austin Westlake High School senior, is the 2021-22 Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year.
Now in its 37th year, the award recognizes one Texas high school football planer who demonstrates characteristics such as:
- Outstanding athletic excellence
- High standards of academic achievement
- Exemplary character exhibited on and off the field
Klubnik’s on-field ccomplishments include:
- Leading the Chaparrals to a 13-0 record, a No. 2 national ranking in the USA TODAY Super 25 and a berth in the quarterfinals of the Class 6A-II state tournament
- Completing 147 of 207 passes for 2,486 yards and 34 touchdowns, with two interceptions through 13 games
- Rushing for 362 yards and 11 touchdowns on 52 carries
- Being named The USA TODAY Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and MVP of the Elite 11 quarterback competition
- Selected to play in the 2022 All-American Bowl
- Ranking as the nation’s No. 1 quarterback recruit in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports
Off the field, Klubnik has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and youth sports programs and maintained an A average in the classroom. He also signed a National Letter of Intent to play football on scholarship at Clemson University in fall 2022.
In addition to being named as Texas’s best high school football player, Klubnik will also be a finalist for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award, which will be announced in December.
