Champaign, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Former Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito, a New Jersey native and undrafted rookie free agent, made his NFL debut with the New York Giants in a preseason game against the Detroit Lions. Despite the Giants losing the game, DeVito impressed many with his poise, talent, and performance on the field.
In his debut, DeVito completed 15 out of 24 passes for 155 yards, including one touchdown and one interception. He showcased his poise and ability to operate under pressure, as he was under constant pressure from the Lions’ defense. Despite the challenging circumstances, DeVito displayed good decision-making skills, used his legs effectively, and took care of the ball.
While DeVito’s future with the Giants remains uncertain, his impressive debut may have caught the attention of New York. He has shown potential to continue developing as a quarterback and make significant strides in his professional career.
Former Illinois defensive back Sydney Brown also shined in his first pre-season game with the Eagles. The Eagles took on the Ravens on Saturday. The Eagles would lose this game but Sydney Brown’s impact would play a huge part of this game.

For Sydney’s brother Chase Brown, he would get valuable minutes with the Bengals, in their loss to the Packers on Friday. Brown would carry the ball eight times for 12 yards. He would also play a major role in the passing game, catching three passes for 33 yards.
Another former defensive back, Jartavius Martin made his pre-season debut for the Commanders, against the Cleveland Browns. Martin would finish this game with four total tackles, and three solo tackles. Martin was drafted by Washington in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft.
