It wasn’t so long ago that good things were predicted for offensive lineman Darian Kinnard as he joined the Kansas City Chiefs. On Tuesday, he’s hoping a change of scenery can provide a fresh opportunity to reach his pro potential.

NFL reporter Jeff McLane has word that Kinnard is the latest signee to the Philadelphia Eagles offseason roster. Teams are now allowed up to 90 players until roster cuts are due near the end of the preseason schedule.

Kinnard first joined the Chiefs as a fifth-round pick out of Kentucky back in the 2022 NFL Draft at No. 145 overall. After the Chiefs remade the offensive line the previous offseason, expectations were fairly low for Kinnard but there was an opportunity at right tackle for someone to step up and grab—between Kinnard, who played the same position for the Wildcats, or Lucas Niang or someone else.

Instead, Kinnard appeared in only 1 game for the Chiefs during his rookie campaign and hung out on the practice squad for his entire second season. Instead of growing into a useful asset, he was passed over along the interior by the likes of Mike Caliendo, a former undrafted free agent, or outside by the arrival of Wanya Morris and the development of Prince Tega Wanogho.

Kinnard does bring a mauler’s mentality and big physical presence to the Eagles, and it should be noted that Philly does an incredible job coaching up young players along the offensive line. If Kinnard is going to have any further luck at the NFL level, he’s got a good spot.
