Dave Martinez made a frightful and disheartening comment today.

The Washington Nationals are a pretty classic team that has won the World Series. Older and more established than the majority of baseball clubs, they persevere in winning despite improbable odds. Additionally, there is a rally animal.

That’s why I’m still interested in the manager: this felt like a classic World Series. His baseball career has been somewhat interesting.

In his Cubs debut, bench coach Davey Martinez earned his first ring. He had also been a player for the Expos, a team he recently led to its first-ever World Series victory. Before taking on the role of bench coach from 2008 to 2014, he played three seasons as a member of the original Devil Rays.

Having served under Joe Maddon for multiple World Series appearances over a decade of working together, you’d expect his first team managed to have an advanced, analytic bent, but that’s not the case, at least in terms of perception.
