Final Four: Jeff Walz’s strategy for building a dominant Louisville basketball team: “Coach them hard, love them harder”
Who is heading to Louisville?
Kianna Smith of Louisville wins the game versus South Carolina.
First April, 2022
Kianna Smith, Emily Engstler, and Chelsie Hall are leaving Louisville.
Smith transferred from California and has been a student at Louisville for three years. During her career, she averaged 11.6 points per game and shot 43% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. As a member of a balanced offense, she finished her final season with the Cardinals with a fantastic 11.9 points and 90 assists.
In his first year, the Syracuse transfer Engstler had a significant influence. Her versatility is the reason she is predicted to be selected in the first or early second round of the WNBA draft. The 6-foot-1 forward was chosen to the All-ACC and All-Defensive teams, finished third in the ACC Player of the Year voting, and averaged 11.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 56 blocks, and 82 steals for Louisville.
Hall, who finished with 64 assists and 6.6 points this season, was an underappreciated contributor to Louisville’s victory. She oversaw both Louisville’s perimeter pressure defensive and offensive schemes. For the upcoming season, the Cardinals should be searching for an impact transfer to take over for Hall.
