LEGAL “High-profile player faces legal issues amid controversy off the field”
LOUISVILLE, KY: Another player will be sidelined for the duration of the University of Louisville men’s basketball season.
Hercy Miller, a junior guard, will undergo hip surgery that will terminate the season, the team said on Monday. This season, he made an effort to play through the injuries.
A representative at UofL said that Miller and his family chose to proceed with the procedure, which will take place in California, after consulting with outside medical experts.
Head coach Kenny Payne stated, “I know he’s down about it,” during the ACC coaches call on Monday. “His family is struggling, I know. However, we back Hercy.
This season, Miller participated in ten games, but he never played for more than ten minutes. The last game he played was on January 20 versus Wake Forest.
Miller shot 27% from the field and averaged 1.1 points, 0.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists.
This season, the Cardinals (7-15, 2-9 ACC) have lost a number of players for various reasons.
Five-star recruit Trentyn Flowers declared in August that he would forego college and play professionally in Australia this coming season. He was ready to contribute significantly to the squad this season.
Transfer Koron Davis was dismissed from the team in December in a messy split. UofL initially said he chose to enter the transfer portal, but Davis took to social media saying that was not true.
The team then put out a second statement saying he had been dismissed. Davis never played in a regular season game for Louisville.
In January, UofL announced freshman Dennis Evans was no longer medically cleared to compete at the university.
Hercy Miller, a walk-on junior guard who has struggled with a hip issue since his freshman season, will have hip surgery on Monday, the program revealed. This surgery will prevent Miller from playing for the rest of the 2023–24 season.
Miller and his family “opted to move forward with the procedure” following “outside medical consultation,” according to a Louisville statement. The surgery is scheduled to happen in California.
