Unbelievable: 4 Commanders players who aren’t safe with Dan Quinn as head coach and have made their intentions to make a move…
Which Washington Commanders players should feel an increased sense of urgency following the appointment of new head coach Dan Quinn?
Dan Quinn is looking to hit the ground running during his second chance at being an NFL head coach. The Washington Commanders are counting on the experienced figure to guide them through some rough waters and into calmer seas. There is no timeframe on their quest for contention, but this huge project needs a semblance of patience attached.
One doesn’t have to look far for glowing recommendations where Quinn is concerned. He’s hugely respected by fellow coaches. Players love him. He wasn’t the flashiest hire around, but the former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator could be exactly what the Commanders are looking for entering their new era.
Quinn’s arrival should also raise the stakes for those already on the books. Aside from a few core foundational pieces, nobody is safe. It’s also worth remembering that extra competition is going to arrive during free agency and the draft – especially considering the vast assets at Washington general manager Adam Peters’ disposal.
With this in mind, here are four Commanders players who aren’t safe with Quinn as head coach.
Andre Jones Jr. – Commanders OLB
While Andre Jones Jr. flashed moments of promise throughout his rookie campaign, the edge rusher must impress a completely new set of eyes this offseason. The former seventh-round selection should be well aware that further additions will arrive after the Washington Commanders traded Montez Sweat and Chase Young before the deadline. Dan Quinn and his staff also have no emotional attachment to their decision-making process whatsoever.
Getting rid of Jones after just one season would be harsh considering he came in as a development project. But this is almost entirely dependent on the Louisiana product shining during offseason workouts and leaving Quinn with no option other than to make him part of Washington’s plans.
