Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was benched during the fourth quarter of his team’s 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
Prescott completed the night with 153 passing yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions, a season high. He never got comfortable in the pocket, as San Francisco’s defensive line sacked him three times.
He sat down midway through the fourth quarter and was replaced by backup Cooper Rush.
Prescott’s quarterback rating of 51.6 was his lowest of the season, as the 49ers raced out to an early 21-7 lead and never looked back. None of Dallas’ receivers exceeded the 50-yard mark, and running back Tony Pollard gained only 29 yards on the ground.
The Cowboys suffered their second loss in three games. The Arizona Cardinals also defeated them 28-16 in Week 3.

Eagles remained perfect on Sunday after defeating the Los Angeles Rams 23-14.
Prescott’s final play of the night was his third interception, an attempted slant that 49ers linebacker Oren Burks picked off.
The Mississippi State product appeared to suffer a finger injury on his throwing hand in the first half, although he was able to continue playing after having it taped up.
The Cowboys will attempt to get back on track against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Oct. 16. Kickoff will be at 8:15 p.m. ET.
Former NFL star Donte Whitner criticized Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott after his performance in a 42-10 loss against the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers, who boast one of the best defenses in the NFL, owned the Cowboys all night long. Prescott threw three interceptions in the loss, and the defense had no answers for Brock Purdy and George Kittle.
“Dak Prescott sucks,” Whitner said on NBC Sports Bay Area. “Period. Right? They talked so much about Dak Prescott being a top-tier quarterback, franchise guy – I don’t see it. I see them trying to cover up for what he lacks. A lot of quick throws, cutting half of the field off and giving him easy throws.
“Other than that, he’s not a quarterback that can drop back and really take advantage of a defense and carve it up. And today, we’ve seen it. The 49ers defense made him look like a tier-four quarterback.”
Whitner said Prescott was the best option for the Cowboys but predicted the possibility of Trey Lance getting some reps if he is unable to bounce back.
