PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers could get their starting quarterback back earlier than expected as Kenny Pickett is attempting to make a comeback in Week 16 from his high ankle sprain, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Pickett missed the team’s Week 14 and 15 matchups, with Mitch Trubisky set to start for a second consecutive week. After undergoing surgery on a high ankle sprain, Pickett’s timetable to return was roughly a month, giving him a chance to be back on the field just ahead of the playoffs.
Now, he could return in just three weeks.
The Steelers currently hold the 6th seed in the AFC playoff race, but a pivotal matchup with the Indianapolis Colts could decide if they remain in that spot moving forward.
Trubisky completed 22 of 35 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown but also threw an interception in the team’s Week 14 loss to the New England Patriots. He’s 2-4 as a starter for the Steelers.
